These crispy fried turnips are a great alternative to fried potatoes. I used a small white turnip(about 6) and diced them into 1/2 inch cubes.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups turnips, diced

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil

  • 1/2 t dried parsley

  • 1/2 salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika

  • 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

Directions

  • Dice the turnips into 1/2 inch cubes.
  • Combine parsley, salt, garlic powder, paprika, rosemary and black pepper in a zipper bag.
  • Add in the diced turnips and 1/2 tablespoon of the vegetable oil and shake.
  • Heat the other 1 1/2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in an iron skillet over medium heat. If cooking with gas or propane, you may need to lower the heat.
  • Add in the turnips and arrange so they are flat in the skillet.
  • Cover with a lid and cook for about 10 minutes.
  • Uncover the lid and toss the turnips around on the other side and cook uncovered for another 5 minutes until golden brown on most sides. Note: Turnips do not take as long to cook as potatoes.
